In the Free Agent process you bid on players that you want to sign. You must submit your bids to the "Free Agent Bids" account. The bid that you make on a player is the contract that you will sign the player to. You must include the following in order for your bid to be considered valid:
*Number of years of the contract offer
*Total amount of the contract offer
*Average Annual Salary ("AAS")
*a breakdown of the contract per year or note it will be evenly spread.
Example:
Los Angeles Dodgers offer Player A:
5 year contract worth $60M
AAS: $12.0M
2016 - $9.6M
2017 - $10.8M
2018 - $12M
2019 - $13.2M
2020 - $14.4M
The maximum salary that maybe offered in a one year contract is 15M
Average Annual Salaries between 15-18M must be offered a minimum of 2 years.
Average Annual Salaries between 18-21M must be offered a minimum of 3 years.
Average Annual Salaries between 21-25M must be offered a minimum of 4 years.
Average Annual Salaries exceeding 25M annually must exceed 4 years in length, max length is 5 years.
Minor leaguers:
Until a player becomes a Protected Prospect (PP) as defined by rule, that player is a minor leaguer. All minor leaguers will be given "Signing Bonus" contracts only. Any player that has yet to achieve prospect status (50 IP or 150 AB) will be signed to a MiLB contract with the exception of international free agents who are 24 years old or older at the time they signed with a MLB club.
SALARY SPREAD AND BID INCREMENTS
When Bidding on Free agents, GMs must make bids within certain structural limits. This is to prevent excessive backloading of long contracts. Contract structure guidelines and examples are below:
Bids with AAS of 7,000,001 or greater:
Any year of the contract can't be paid under 80% or over 120%
Example: 5yrs, AAS=$10.0m 14:$8m, 15:$10m, 16:$10m, 17:$10m, 18:$12m
Bids with AAS of 3,000,001 - 7,000,000
Any year of the contract can't be paid under 60% or over 140%
example: 4yrs, AAS=$6.0m 14:$3.6m, 15:$5.4m, 16:$6.6m, 17:$8.4m
Bids with AAS of 3,000,000 or less
Any year of the contract can't be paid under 40% or over 160%
example: 3yrs, AAS=$2.0 14:$.8m, 15:$2.0m, 16:$3.2m
The minimum increment for a bid is 100k. Bids that include any denomination lower than 100k (i.e. 50K, 10k, 1k, 100, 10 etc.) will be considered invalid and will not count.
Rounding to 100k increments will not make bids invalid for salary spread. If a bid violates the salary spread rules, the League Office has the discretion to reform the bid in accordance with the winning AAS and the same number of years. This discretion will generally be granted unless there is a pattern of submitting invalid bids or other reason to believe this lenience is being abused. Bids that do not have the sufficient number of years, however, will be invalid regardless of AAS.
PRIORITY LISTS
Priority lists allow GMs to bid on players with contingency plans in mind. This is especially helpful when cap space is tight or when we are bidding on many players at once in off-season free agency. Priority lists are encouraged but it is extremely important that they are clear.
Example- You want 1 guy between Player A, Player B, and Player C. Group those guys together and state that you only want 1 of them out of the group. List them in descending order of your preference.
"I will take ONE of these guys...
1. Player B
2. Player C
3. Player A"
Priority lists contingent on player cost ($) will not be considered.
OFF-SEASON
Salary cap and roster (# of players) limits will be handled differently in the off-season than they are during the season. Please refer to each section below for specifics.
Starting after the winter meetings in December, Free Agent bidding will be held each year.
During off-season bidding, each calendar week will feature either Restricted Free Agents or a player position as a guideline to that week's bidding. You may ONLY bid on a player in that category that week.
Restricted Free Agents ("RFAs") will be split between pitchers and hitters and will be bid on in the first two weeks of the auctions. Please carefully review all rules for bidding on RFA's as they are significantly different from unrestricted FA's.
Each week thereafter, a field position (i.e. OF, CI, MI, C, SP or RP) will be open for bidding. You will only be allowed to bid on players who played that position each week....i.e. only OF may be bid upon during a week designated for OF's. Bids on a player not at that position will be invalidated.
By Sunday night, each week, the position category for that week will be posted to the Offseason Free Agency thread found under the Free Agency tab on the league homepage.
**All players must be posted (nominated) in the position category thread by Thursday 11:59 PM Eastern.
**All bids are due by Friday 11:59 PM Eastern.
All bids must be Private Messaged (PM'ed) to "Free Agent Bids". The administrator parsing out the bids will only look at the most recent Message on a thread, i.e. if you edit your bids, resend all of them, not just the edited bit. Do not send more than one PM thread per bidding period, only the first will be honored. The submitted bid via PM is date and time sensitive and it dictates if the bid is on time or late. The time of bid submission, for the purposes of tie-breaking, pertains to the final message on a thread, not any of the previous messages. Late bids will be invalidated. No exceptions.
Winning bids will be posted as promptly as possible. For RFAs, a further process is noted in Rule 7. For unrestricted FA's, the winning GM must update their roster and team salary information within 72 hours.
With regard to adherence to salary cap and roster size, Dynasty GM will relax the general rule during the off-season only to allow some flexibility in light of the blind bidding system. Each GM will be allowed to carry up to 5 extra players at any point in time during the auctions. During this off-season exercise, each franchise will be able to exceed their salary cap by up to $10M. You can utilize trading to free up roster and salary cap space. **A word to the wise...bid prudently.
All salary caps and rosters must be in full compliance by the season's Opening Day (first MLB game of season). Failure to be in compliance will mean no stat accumulation on Fantrax.
IN SEASON
Once the regular season begins, the process of FA bidding changes slightly since there will be no weekly randomly drawn batches of players on which to bid.
There will be, however, weekly bidding deadlines to help create an environment of fairness and promote GM activity.
Players may be posted at any time, however, bids will be counted every Thursday at 11:59 PM EST. In order for a player to be eligible for bid in a given period, he must be posted by Wednesday at 11:59 PM EST.
Blind Bidding - Once a player is listed, any GM may submit a blind bid to the "Free Agent Bids" account. Any PM submitted prior to a player being listed will be invalidated. Bids may be submitted until the weekly deadline of Thursday 11:59PM EST. Any bid received after the deadline will be invalidated. No exceptions.
Be careful to not exceed your salary cap. If this occurs, the commissioner’s office will contact you mandating that your team make arrangements to waive players in order to bring the current salary within your team’s salary cap. You will have only 72-hours to do this. If you fail to comply, the League Office will take action and possibly drop your most recently signed player to free agency in order to bring your team under the required salary cap maximum. If you sign someone and you don't place him on your 60 man roster within 72 hours he becomes a free agent again. At this point the League Office will notify the league of the player who has recently become a free agent and list them under the Waiver thread. The League Office will review each 60-man roster often to make sure you are complying with your team’s assigned salary cap.
AFTER INAUGURAL DRAFT BIDDING
Same rules as the IN SEASON bidding, but will be a special session that covers the rest of the players who go undrafted. Minor Leaguers will be subject to a special Minor League Free agent period that will occur every year at the all-star break.
*Number of years of the contract offer
*Total amount of the contract offer
*Average Annual Salary ("AAS")
*a breakdown of the contract per year or note it will be evenly spread.
